More new bike lanes

It's enough to make a CFRA show host have a stroke or cause a state of apoplexy in an Ottawa Sun reader, but here we go again: another segregated bike lane! This one is just a shorty, but a goody. Running along the north side of Wellington (starting at Bay Street) to the raised bike lane along the Portage Bridge it will be easy to make the connection here from the Laurier SBL coming up Bay Street. Another piece of the puzzle comes together.

Construction began today on the Wellington Street segregated bike lane.

  1. Congratulations! All bike lanes should be segregated. We have them on most streets here in Penticton. Their other name is sidewalks....We also don't wear helmets ( see picture to R)....

  2. Well, there are quite a few cyclists who believe strongly in using sidewalks. Some feel it's safer mixing with pedestrians than with cars. I can't say I disagree with that and certainly for younger people it's a common practice. For myself, I use cycle paths when I can and the road when I must but I won't judge someone who feels safer on the sidewalk.
