How healthy is your home?

How healthy is your home? Not only do some homes today contain potentially harmful carcinogens but many are home to toxic moulds and other health hazards we know less about. How about your carpeting? Often the carpet underside is made of something in the trade known as “action backing” or a similar product. This material, when combined with carpet glue, can release a harmful gas. Not everyone is bothered by it but more and more people are. When I worked in the flooring trade years ago it was not uncommon for me to have a bit of a buzz at the end of the day from inhaling such vapours all day. If you are interested in learning about ecological materials and products for your home then you may want to attend SLOE’s (Sustainable Living Ottawa East) Ecological Home Renovation talk on November16th. Everything from insulation to cabinetry to flooring will be discussed. This session will provide an in–depth review of healthy and ecologically responsible materials. The session will be facilitated by the Healthiest Home.
This talk will be held at the Old Town Hall at 61 Main Street (Main and Hawthorne) 7:15-8:30 P.M.
